1922 Bill Tilden US Open Singles Championship Trophy. It would be disingenuous to fail to address the sex scandals which sullied the reputation of this tennis legend, but the greater injustice would be a dismissal of Tilden's historical relevance in the Golden Age of Sport. Boxing had Dempsey, golf had Jones, baseball had Ruth, and for tennis, it was Tilden. While one couldn't expect this impressive relic to draw equivalent bidding interest as a World Series ring from the Babe or a Championship belt from Dempsey, this trophy does stand as an equivalent. For seven consecutive years, Tilden met his greatest rival William Johnston in the finals of the United States' most celebrated tennis tournament, emerging victorious from all but their inaugural encounter. This is the sterling bowl earned for the third of Tilden's six consecutive US Open Championships.

The sterling treasure, crafted by "J.E. Caldwell & Co.," measures just under seven inches in height with a diameter of twelve inches exactly. Artfully engraved on its side are the words, "United States Lawn Tennis Association, National Championship, Singles, Germantown Cricket Club, 1922, Won by William T. Tilden 2nd, Runner-Up William M. Johnston." A few small dings are located on the opposing side of the bowl, hence invisible from view upon display, otherwise NRMT.
