1900 Paris Summer Olympics Gold Medal. Gorgeous creation by noted French sculptor and engraver Frédéric-Charles-Victor de Vernon is the gilt-silver variety, the type issued to victors in competitions for shooting and special awards in lifesaving and the automobile race. This medal, marked, "Concours de Sauvetage sur Terre," represents a top finish in lifesaving. The design features a winged goddess scattering laurel branches on obverse, and a victorious athlete posed in front of the Acropolis on verso. The French word for silver, "Argent," is stamped along bottom edge, differentiating this model from the solid gold variety. Condition is spectacular, with hardly a hint of wear. Weight is fifty-seven grams (57 g.).
