Description

1900 Paris Summer Olympics Firefighting Events Presentation Medal. Very rare silvered-bronze medal was issued to a participant in "Maneuvres d'Incendie," as text on verso reveals, indicating the firefighting competition. Note that this is different from the rectangular models issued to winners, but this is far rarer, the first we've encountered. Helmeted bust of France, rooster on helmet, cherub with torch below leaning on beehive on obverse, four- line legend surrounded by fire fighting scenes on verso. Diameter 50 mm, weight 62 g. Fine condition.
