    Description

1891 Samuel Francis Smith (My Country, 'Tis of Thee) Handwritten & Signed Sheet. Samuel Francis Smith wrote this song in February 1832, the year that he became a Baptist minister and editor of the Baptist Missionary Magazine. A friend asked him to translate a German song for him. Smith liked the music so much that he wrote new English words for it. The song became popular in his lifetime and was performed at his funeral in 1895.

Presented here are the four written stanzas of the significant piece from Smith and the 9.25x8" lined sheet is signed and dated "Nov. 27, 1891" in NM fountain pen ink. Beautifully framed and matted at 24x16", it also includes two vintage booklets featuring "Patriotic Songs of American". Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
