1980 Johan Cruyff Game Worn Jersey. Voted European Player of the Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics in 1999, Cruyff is widely considered to be the second greatest footballer of all time after the iconic Pele, who he followed into the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the later years of his career. Presented is an extraordinarily rare jersey from this brief flirtation with American soccer by the Dutch legend, the first (to our knowledge) ever presented at public auction. The simple knit "Adidas" brand pullover features a heat-pressed "Dips 14" applied to the chest and "Cruyff 14" on verso. White and black tackle twill repeat the number "14" on the right sleeve. Manufacturer's label, washing instructions and size "M" flap tags reside at interior collar. Solid game wear is evident.

Magnificent provenance further bolsters the appeal of this rarity, as it comes from the personal collection of Tony Bellinger, five-season veteran of the rival NASL Dallas Tornado. Included in the lot is a photograph of Bellinger marking Cruyff in the game during which the Washington Diplomats star wore this jersey, and a letter from Bellinger's son explaining how Cruyff and his father traded jerseys at the close of the contest. Letter of provenance from Bellinger's son. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

I am completely satisfied, more to the point, absolutely ecstatic, about not only the proceeds but the wonderful professional manner every aspect of my little consignment was handled.
