1956 Johnny Longden Triple Crown Winner Racing Silk, Blanket and Whip Used to Become Winningest Jockey. Each year the winner of the Kentucky Derby races against history with the ultimate goal being a Triple Crown. The big three races of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes equal the Triple Crown. Eleven times the Triple Crown has been captured but nobody has won it since 1978.

In 1943, Johnny Longden secured the Triple Crown as he rode Count Fleet to racing immortality. Following his successful career, one in which he won a then-record 6,032 races, Longden became a trainer for Majestic Prince. In 1969, Majestic Prince won the Kentucky Derby which established Longden as the only man to win the Kentucky Derby as a jockey and trainer.

This ensemble served Longden during his Hall of Fame career and is sourced directly from his family. According to his granddaughter, Longden wore this when he became the winningest jockey of all time Sept. 3, 1956. Taking top billing in the offering is the very silk Longden wore that record-setting afternoon at Santa Anita. The silk representation has a Velcro swatch running down the button path allowing for a tight fit. Purple sleeves and a built-in bow add a dose of aesthetics. Sewn in the collar is a "Colors by Lovell" manufacturer's tag. Applied in the tail region is "Hazel Longden" as a tribute to his wife. Also included is a horse blanket with "John Longden" instituted in single-color white felt. Longden's hat is the cherry on top of this offering. Smaller accessories include Longden's whip (24.5"), "5" and "4" leather numeral identifiers which were worn by the his horse and 12x8" Triple Bend photo signed by Donald Pierce and Vance Longden.
