Identical in appearance to those won by Jim Thorpe

1912 Stockholm Summer Olympics Gold Medal. It was the first time that all five continents were represented at an Olympic Games, with twenty-eight nations sending over 2,400 competitors to the Swedish capital to compete in 102 events in fourteen sports. These Games were significant as the first to feature art competitions, women's diving and swimming, and both the pentathlon and decathlon, which were famously won by American athletic icon Jim Thorpe. The Americans made the most appearances on the top pedestal of the podium with twenty-five Gold Medal performances, while the host nation claimed the most medals in total at sixty-five.

Two different formats of Gold Medal were utilized at Stockholm, both solid gold and gilt silver, issued to individual winners and team winners respectively. This rare relic is from the latter format, lighter than the solid gold format at eighteen grams (18g.), though otherwise visually indistinguishable. Size is thirty-three millimeters (33mm.) in diameter.

The obverse utilizes the Bertram Mackennal design created for the 1908 London Games, with twin seated female figures crowning a male athlete with a crown of laurels. Reverse is the work of Swedish artisan Erik Lindberg, who honors Pehr Henrik Ling, an early national pioneer of physical education and the gym system. Near fine condition. One of only two hundred examples minted.
