    Description

1887-1890 Tobacco Card Group Lot of 29. Includes cards from W. Duke Sons & Co., Wm. S. Kimball & Co. and Goodwin & Co. Most interesting are the Wm. S. Kimball & Co. "Pretty Athletes" cards produced near the turn of the century and before the advent of the industrial revolution and sport for the "masses." At a time when opportunity for the pursuit of leisurely activities was limited to the wealthy, the women depicted in various gymnastic positions seem to be as concerned with high fashion as in simply keeping fit. Also included are 1890 National Cigarette & Tob. Co. - National Types (N388).
