    Description

The style worn during the 1940-41 Stanley Cup Championship season!

Early 1940's Bobby Bauer Game Worn Boston Bruins Jersey. He's immortalized at the Hockey Hall of Fame, but Bauer's greatest claim to fame is his membership within the Bruins' fabled "Kraut Line," an affectionate but perhaps mildly politically incorrect nickname assigned to the trio of Bauer, Milt Schmidt and Woody Dumart, a reference to their shared German lineage. The dominant triumvirate became the first line in NHL history to claim first, second and third place finishes in scoring in a single season, and led the Bruins to a pair of Stanley Cup Championships before a nearly three decade drought that ended with Bobby Orr's "Superman" clincher.

This is the jersey format the Bruins wore for the latter, a four-game sweep of the Detroit Red Wings to cap a glorious 1940-41 campaign. We cannot definitively assign that special vintage to the offered garment, but it remains a thrilling possibility. The distinctive style features a white wool body with black and yellow striping at shoulders, elbows and waist, with number "17" applied to front and back in yellow tackle twill with black outlines. A logo "B" is similarly applied at each bicep. Interior rear tail holds the proper "Horace Partridge Co., Boston [size] 42" label.

Solid game wear is evident, with several team repairs, but the garment survives over seven decades of existence remarkably well, without any problematic issues of mothing or staining typical of most wool sweaters of the era. It's an exciting relic from one of the most important eras of Boston hockey. LOA from Joe Tomon. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
