With a period letter from Gretzky himself and a couple more from the team!

1990-91 Wayne Gretzky Game Worn & Signed Los Angeles Kings Jersey. Ordinarily, you'd have to be dead, or at least dying, to get that kind of treatment. But Wayne Gretzky was still a young man in perfect health when he was bestowed with an honor not offered since Roberto Clemente, and Lou Gehrig before him, sent straight to the Hall of Fame upon retirement without the requisite five year waiting period. And while number four and number twenty-one were retired from the Yankees and Pirates wardrobes respectively to honor the fallen ballplayers, Wayne Gretzky's famous double-nines were declared off-limits for the entirety of the National Hockey League in perpetuity, a distinction previously afforded only to the great Jackie Robinson in the entirety of the four major professional sports.

So while ownership of a number "99" jersey within the modern NHL is an impossibility, the odds increase only minimally for those battling within the modern sports collectibles market. The man whose career scoring total establishes him as the greatest offensive weapon in the history of the sport has played a mean defense when it comes to his game used gear, creating the widest chasm between supply and demand of any star athlete of the past three decades. Michael Jordan, Brett Favre, Derek Jeter--he's got them all beat. For most jersey collectors, Gretzky will remain nothing more than a dream.

But that tough luck will change for one victorious bidder on this Platinum Night, as Heritage presents a stellar Los Angeles Kings gamer backed by the most ironclad provenance imaginable. A thick folder of documentation that joins this battle-scarred garment includes a signed letter from Gretzky himself, another from the Los Angeles Kings head trainer Peter Demers, still another from Kings broadcaster and former Gretzky teammate Jim Fox, and a letter of authenticity from renowned hockey memorabilia experts MeiGray. A final letter states this jersey was sold as part of the 2014 deaccession of the "Newport Sports Museum" in Los Angeles.

The white mesh gamer exhibits fine game wear from a season that saw The Great One add to his legend with his ninth of a record ten career Art Ross Trophies for scoring and his second of five Lady Byng Memorial Trophies for sportsmanship. MeiGray notes board burns and paint transfers on the sleeves and interior pilling among its wounds.

Double "CCM" logos appear at waist, with a stitched "99" patch and Velcro swatch inside both key Gretzky traits, as is the clipped fight strap. A black sharpie signature on upper chest completes a perfect representation. Letter of provenance from Wayne Gretzky. Letter of provenance from Kings head trainer. Letter of provenance from Jim Fox. LOA from MeiGray. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
