1986-87 Wayne Gretzky Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Gloves - Perfect Photomatch! The road to the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals was a rather smooth one for the Edmonton Oilers, who lost only two games during this postseason process. The star-studded team from the Smythe Division defeated the Los Angeles Kings in five games, swept the Winnipeg Jets and beat the Detroit Red Wings in another relatively easy five games to win the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, for the fourth time in five years.

Behind the leadership of the "Great One" Wayne Gretzky, the Oilers would face the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup Finals, and unlike the Oilers relatively straightforward journey to the championship series, the Flyers had a much harder road to the Finals. It took a tough six games to put away the New York Rangers, the entire seven games to beat the New York Islanders and six games to defeat a solid Montreal Canadiens squad.

However, although the Flyers appeared to be considerably outmatched in comparison to the offensive-powerhouse Oilers, the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals went the distance, and in what is widely considered one of the best Finals in NHL history, Edmonton barely escaped the tight play of the Flyers, to once again become Stanley Cup Champions.

Heritage Auctions is proud to present this amazing pair of "Jofa 686 L" model gloves that Oilers captain Wayne Gretzky wore during the entire 1987 Stanley Cup Finals. Displaying staggering eye appeal, and exemplary use, these blue, orange and white stunners are accompanied with a full MeiGray letter, complete with multiple photomatches, with probably its most notable coming from the famed June 1, 1987 "Sports Illustrated" cover: "Great, Gretzky" and to an image of Wayne holding the Stanley Cup in his lap, while wearing the gloves at the post season photo shoot, 100 percent confirming that Gretzky wore these gloves during the 1987 championship series. In addition, the palm of the left glove has two team sewn repairs, and one of the repairs can be confirmed with another perfect photomatch.

All the important characteristics are present, with the "Jofa" label stitched on the cuffs, "99" decals on the base of the thumbs and "Jofa" printed on the bands. In addition, Gretzky signed each piece in perfect black sharpie, perfectly completing these iron-clad museum pieces. Without question, this lot consists of one of Gretzky's most significant game-worn exemplars, which will surely attract the most serious collectors who position solid authenticity at the top of their list of hobby necessities.
