1985-86 Wayne Gretzky Game Worn Edmonton Oilers Gloves--Photo Matched! It was statistically the greatest offensive season not only in the storied career of The Great One, but in the full history of the National Hockey League. Gretzky's 215 points recorded during the 1985-86 season--a tireless barrage of fifty-two goals and 163 assists--stands as a record to this day. It's one of four times that the absolute king of the sport summitted the 200-point plateau, a feat accomplished by no other player to date. To say that the offered gloves find the master at the absolute peak of his prime is a thundering understatement.

Leading hockey collectibles expert Perry Nelson is to thank for the assignation of this elite vintage, having matched the classic blue, orange and white gauntlets to two separate images from Gretzky's fifth consecutive Art Ross Trophy season as the league's leading scorer (and sixth consecutive Hart Memorial Trophy season as the NHL MVP). He points to a loose thread near the right side of the top of the "686" stamped panel on the back of the right glove as one match, and a slash mark on the orange upper cuff and various other marks on the thumb of the left glove in another. We'll provide clear images of the matches in our online listing.

The "Jofa 686" gloves exhibit the degree of tremendous game wear one would expect for the most productive offensive season in professional hockey history, both externally in the form of endless slashes and scuffs, and internally where heavy pilling and sweat staining is clearly evident.

Heritage has been fortunate to offer some of the most significant artifacts from the peerless career of Wayne Gretzky ever to tempt a bidding audience, but this lot distinguishes itself even at that elite level. The most productive hands in the sport's history were contained inside these gloves, planting the highest flag on the game's scoring mountain--one that is likely to fly there forever. LOA from Perry Nelson. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
