1967-69 Gordie Howe Game Worn Detroit Red Wings Jersey. He debuted with the Red Wings as an eighteen-year old in 1946 and led the team to four Stanley Cup Championships over the quarter-century of service to come. While his status as the greatest hockey player that ever lived finds a challenger in the legendary Wayne Gretzky, it's noteworthy that Gretzky himself casts his vote for Howe, his own childhood hero. Certainly there is no close challenger to Howe's supremacy as the greatest Red Wing of all time, and this understated white-on-red jersey format is Mr. Hockey's most recognizable fashion format.

Leading hockey memorabilia experts Milt Byron and Brad Moore each supply a letter of authenticity dating the garment to a two-season span near the end of Howe's long service to the Motor City, and the heavy game wear evident in the form of stick marks, board burns, team repairs and sweat staining speaks to Howe's take-no-prisoners playing style. The anchor stitching for the "Olympic Sports" collar tagging is visible but only the "Size 48" sub-tag remains, correct for the legendary Hall of Famer. Logo crest is affixed to chest, with properly formatted number "9" applied to reverse in white tackle twill. There are no signs of alterations present.

Despite Howe's status as the all-time leader in professional games played, the supply of quality game used garments such as this is remarkably small. Many Howe gamers that have surfaced date to the closing years of his career as a member of the Houston Aeros or New England/Hartford Whalers. Certainly this Red Wings representation has all other formats soundly beaten. LOA from Milton Byron. LOA from Brad Moore. LOA from Spivak & Kraut. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
