    Description

1961 Willie O'Ree First Career Goal Puck-First NHL Goal by an African-American Player.
Referred to as the "Jackie Robinson of ice hockey", Willie O'Ree broke the National Hockey League's color barrier during the 1957 season, after he received a letter from the Boston Bruins general manager Lynn Patrick, who instructed him to report to the team's training camp in September of that year.

After playing with the Bruins for two games during the 1957-58 season, O'Ree returned to the minors, but reached the NHL again to play during the 1960-61 season.

Presented here is the puck that O'Ree used to score his first NHL goal, which served as a game winner against the Montreal Canadians on January 1, 1961. A truly historic artifact representing the first goal ever scored in the NHL by an African American player, the Official NHL (Ross) puck is accompanied by a signed letter directly from O'Ree, who noted that he had it ever since the game, and it is the only puck he ever kept. Letter of provenance from Willie O'Ree. LOA from Beckett (authenticating the O'Ree autograph on LOP). Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
