1960 Maurice "Rocket" Richard Final Career Goal Puck, Scored in Stanley Cup Finals. Excerpted from "Maurice Richard: Reluctant Hero," by Frank Orr and Chris Goyens, 2001.

"The easy 5-2 victory in Game Three showed off the Canadiens' depth. Maurice Richard: Reluctant Hero." "In the second period, Maurice accepted a pass from his brother Henri and went to cut across the front of the Leafs goal. His way was barred so he circled behind the net, emerging on the opposite post, and let a backhand go just as he made his turn. The puck found the net. It would be the last goal he would ever score, number 626 combined and number 82 in the playoffs. Those attending the game may have sensed the significance of the gesture when Richard fished the puck out of Johnny Bower's goal. 'I regretted that I didn't keep the puck from my first playoff goal but, at least, I have the puck from my eighty-second,' Richard explained."

This would prove to be Richard's only goal of the 1960 Stanley Cup, and two days later he would hoist Lord Stanley's glorious hardware after his Canadiens completed the four-game sweep of their storied rival. He'd never play another NHL game, announcing his retirement on September 15, 1960.

Heritage Auctions is pleased and honored to offer one of the most historic hockey pucks ever made available to the collecting public, sourced directly from the Richard family not long after his 2000 passing. The double-side Art Ross Tyer Official NHL gamer looks like any other but for a pair of vintage number "82" notations on each side, four in total. The puck first entered the hobby through a Classic Collectibles auction, and is accompanied with their letter of provenance. Letter of provenance from Claude Juteau/Classic Collectibles.
