    Description

1951 Parkhurst Maurice Richard #4 PSA NM-MT+ 8.5. Maurice Richard was an immense talent on the ice earning the distinction of being the first player to score 50 goals in a season and over 500 in his career. His rookie appears in the landmark Parkhurst issue of 1951 and is among the most highly sought after by modern collectors. Only the rookie Gordie Howe commands a higher price. "The Comet" was a beloved hero in his native Montreal, Quebec where he was born, played hockey for 18 years (his entire career) for the Canadiens and it was the place where he would ultimately pass away. When Mr. Richard passed away on May, 27, 2000, his death was a moment of immense sadness. He was the first person the province of Quebec honored with a funeral designated for heads of state. It is estimated well over 100,000 mourners paid their respects at the Molson Center while he was lying in state.

His list of awards and honors - both as a hockey player and as a citizen - are immense. This includes the "Order of Canada" in 1967, and "Companion of the Order of Canada" in 1998. He has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame and saw appointment to the "Queen's Privy Council for Canada." His #9 was retired right after he retired in 1960. The Hockey Hall of Fame waived the standard five-year waiting period and inducted him in 1961.

Graded PSA NM-MT+ 8.5. One of three graded NM-MT+ with five rated higher.
