1929-30 Montreal Canadiens Team Signed Panoramic
Photograph--Stanley Cup Champions! No franchise has hoisted the
Stanley Cup more often than the Montreal Canadiens--twenty-four
times as this text is written--but the Habs found themselves in the
unlikely role of underdog as they entered the 1930 Stanley Cup
Finals against the defending champion Boston Bruins. The boys from
Beantown had absolutely trampled the competition throughout the
regular season, finishing 38-5-1 for an astounding .875 winning
percentage, the best in NHL history.
In those forty-four regular season contests, the Bruins had never
lost consecutive games, but they'd fall to Montreal 3-0 in Game One
and 4-3 in Game Two, breaking that streak at the worst possible
time. The event prompted the change from best-of-three in 1930 to
best-of-five in 1931.
Here's the team that forever altered the course of Stanley Cup
history, certainly one of the finest autographed pre-war hockey
items we have been privileged to present. It is unquestionably one
of the most dominant teams in professional hockey, winning four of
the five Stanley Cup Finals between 1928 and 1932, and an
examination of the personnel explains that lengthy reign.
Hall of Fame talent abounds in this 7.5x27" panoramic photograph,
most notably the brilliant and tragic Howie Morenz, whose forty
goals in 1929-30 was a career-best. He'd die seven years later of a
coronary embolism resulting from a badly broken leg in his final
game, establishing his autograph as one of the toughest in the
sport. Joining him here and in bronze immortality are Aurele
Joliat, Sylvio Mantha, George Hainsworth and team owner Leo
Dandurand. Black fountain pen ink signatures number eighteen in
population and average 7/10 in strength. Photo itself exhibits
minor foxing but no tears or creases, likely due to the fact that
it appears to remain in its original frame (9x28.5"). Full LOA
