Early 1960s Clinton Comets Game Worn Jersey. Established in 1927 and operating in a number of minor leagues until the late-1970s, the Clinton Comets were one of the dominant teams of the days of the Eastern Hockey League. Their teams of the 1960s were particularly awe-inspiring, producing such noteworthy alumni as Benny Woit and Pete Babando. The Comets were EHL champs for the 1963-64 campaign.

Dating from the early 1960s, this fabulous white wool sweater presents as perhaps the finest exemplar of a Comets jersey. The slick red and blue striping is complimented by the arched "COMETS" in blue tackle twill, which is just above a "9" which is also found at the verso. Original tagging from Sport Centre in Hartford, Connecticut is found in the lower inside left seam. Jersey is as close to immaculate as one could hope from an on-ice example from the era, a time during which violence was a selling point for the sport. While we have no definitive attribution as to who exactly wore this elegant gamer, we do know that Pierre Gagne wore the 9 shirt for the Comets throughout the 1960-61 campaign. Also may be a Babando gamer as it originates from the estate of NHL vet Pete Babando. Another example of this beautifully-designed wool may never come up for auction again, let alone one in such fabulous presentational condition. Guide Value or Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.
