Circa 1953 Jean Beliveau Game Worn Montreal Canadiens Rookie-Era Jersey with Beliveau Letter. Extraordinary garment is, by far, the earliest Beliveau representation ever to enter the collectibles hobby, a relic saved for posterity by the 1972 Hall of Fame inductee himself, who surmised that he had retained it due to some unique significance that he could not, when he first sold the jersey in 2004, exactly recall. Experts theorize that the particular style of the woolen sweater, from the closed "C" crest on the chest and the dual eyelets at the collar, suggests it may well be the first number "4" jersey worn by Beliveau, who had previously sported "17" and "20" during brief call-ups from the farm system. If this theory is correct, this is effectively a Beliveau rookie, clearly a good reason to keep a souvenir.

The jersey exhibits solid game wear with a scattering of small unrepaired holes (two more are intentionally cut at rear hem to button the jersey into Beliveau's pants) and some dye bleeding, but the overall aesthetics remain strong and the elite significance entirely unharmed.

Beliveau became just the fourth member of the 500 Goal Club in 1971, and remains one of the faces on the Mt. Rushmore of the sport. Few garments on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame could compete with this offering in terms of significance or desirability. Letter of provenance from Jean Beliveau. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
