Massive game wear allows for multiple matches to postseason photography including Finals!
2002 Brett Hull Stanley Cup Playoffs Game Worn Detroit Red Wings
Jersey--Photo Matched! It's considered one of the greatest
teams in the history of the National Hockey League, with ten future
Hall of Famers on the ice and another in the coach's chair. The
2001-02 Red Wings would begin the season with three 500+ goal
scorers (Steve Yzerman, Luc Robitaille and Brett Hull), and add a
fourth before the season was done when Brendan Shanahan joined the
club. All forty-one home games at Joe Louis Arena sold out, and the
expectation of Stanley Cup glory weighed heavily on a team that had
been unceremoniously bounced from the postseason in the first round
the previous season. For a brief moment, it appeared that massive disappointment would repeat itself as the Red Wings dropped their first two playoff games to the Canucks, but captain Yzerman rallied the troops in a closed-door speech, and the Wings set off to Vancouver to win four straight and set up a Western Conference Finals against the Colorado Avalanche. The first of two photo matches derives from this brutal seven-game series, specifically Hull's last-second goal in a losing Game Four effort on May 25, 2002.
But after losing Game Five as well, the Red Wings buckled down and scored nine unanswered goals in back-to-back elimination games to move on to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they met the Carolina Hurricanes. After dropping the first game in overtime at home, Detroit rattled off four straight victories to realize their glorious destiny. The second photo match discovered by the experts at Sports Investors Authentication again finds Hull in a scoring capacity, celebrating what would prove to be the winner in a three-to-zero Game Four result that would take the Red Wings to Lord Stanley's doorstep. They'd step through just three days later.
The red mesh gamer exhibits outstanding wear, with multiple team repairs on the sleeves and stick marks on the chest. One of them slashes across the team emblem, opposite a 2002 Stanley Cup Finals patch. Number "17" is sewn to each sleeve and verso in white tackle twill, and "Hull" stands across the shoulders in arched block lettering. Size "56" label appears beneath a screened number "2" in the collar. "2001-2002 Authentic Game Jersey Playoff Set" label is screened at interior rear tail a few inches below the fight strap, and an "Air-Knit" tag is anchored at interior left seam. Unquestionably one of the most exciting 21st century hockey gamers that Heritage has been privileged to offer to the collecting community. LOA from MeiGray. LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (two separate photo matches). LOA from Heritage Auctions.
