1975 Bobby Orr Final Game Worn Jersey as a Member of the Boston Bruins. Despite the violent nature of its game play, the sport of hockey has seen incredible durability from many of its greatest stars. Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Ray Bourque, Johnny Bucyk, Steve Yzerman and Wayne Gretzky all dedicated two decades or more to the professional game. But Bobby Orr followed the path of Sandy Koufax, a soaring meteor that burned white-hot but was gone too soon. He played just ten NHL seasons, eight as the greatest talent ever to wear the black and gold of the Boston Bruins.That all-too-brief era of dominance has left the collectibles hobby in woefully short supply of game worn jerseys from Orr. Here we present one of the most important to survive to present day, the very last worn in representation of the team he twice led to Stanley Cup glory. It's a fitting bookend to the rookie model that Heritage sold for a record $191,200 in April 2010.
Small unique details in the logo crest on the chest allow definitive attribution to the November 26, 1975 contest at New York City's Madison Square Garden that would prove to be Orr's final Bruins appearance. Further details can be matched at a sewing blemish on the elbow. Orr's fabled number "4" remains affixed in yellow and white tackle twill to shoulders and reverse. Like most jerseys of the era, the garment was repurposed for secondary use at the farm club level following Orr's ownership, when the Bicentennial patches were removed and the logo Bruins patches relocated--the stitching paths of all patches remain visible. Fight strap remains at lower rear tail.
Game wear is strong, with some partially repaired damage to the logo crest, clearly suffered post-Orr. Interior collar holds "Wilson [size] 46" label, smaller than Orr's standard "50," but photographic evidence plainly shows Orr favored much tighter jerseys during his final season in Boston. And, again, the exact matching of idiosyncrasies in the crest and elbow stitching is unimpeachable evidence of authenticity. Orr can be seen wearing this jersey on the cover of the July 1976 issue of The Hockey News (copy included).
