1960's Jean Beliveau Signed Game Worn Montreal Canadiens Jersey. UPDATE: A PSA/DNA Full LOA accompanies this lot.

"Talent is a gift from God," Beliveau once explained, "but you only succeed with hard work." Few athletes in any field of endeavor have as successfully blended skill and will as this Montreal Canadiens legend, earning ten Stanley Cup Championships during two decades of playing service, and seven more as an executive. The Hockey News ranks Beliveau number seven in their list of the top 100 National Hockey League players of all time. Beliveau was just the fourth player in NHL history to net 500 goals, and only the second to score 1,000 points. So it's little surprise that his game used garments rank with the most coveted in the sports collectibles hobby.

Presented is a gorgeous example thereof, a red, white and blue Canadiens
tie-front (original laces) sweater with that nearly impossible combination of strong game wear and absence of moth holes or other such damage typical of antique wool. Pilling at the elbow and cuffs, a small hole on the lower sleeve, and black bands on the inner cuffs from rubbing against his black undergarment, all suggest many hours on the ice.

Beliveau served as team captain for a full decade, and we find his logo "C" (with nice fraying) at upper left chest, joined by the classic team crest affixed at obverse center. Upper sleeves and jersey back provide a tackle twill number "4," a digit quite properly retired after Beliveau's farewell 1971 campaign. Furthermore, the back identifier bears a beautiful autograph in NRMT black sharpie. Meanwhile, the interior hem holds the proper "Tease Knitting Co." washing label, feather-soft from sweaty wear.

This is unquestionably one the finest Beliveau garments ever made available to a bidding audience.
LOA from Heritage Auctions. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
