Description

1937 Howie Morenz Memorial Official Game Program. A speedster on the ice who thrilled fans with the electricity he brought to the sport, Howie Morenz was the first NHL player to achieve superstar status. He even helped bring the league to the United States after the powers that be in New York and Boston applied for NHL franchises upon seeing Morenz play in exhibitions in their respective cities. A torrential goalscorer, it is often overlooked how proficient the Hall of Famer was on the defensive end. Morenz' career was infamously cut short, though, as a result of a hit he suffered in 1937. His leg was shattered and he subsequently died in the hospital due to complications suffered as a result of the broken limb. Here we present a fantastic rarity in the official game program for the Howie Morenz Memorial Game held in November of '37 in Montreal. Shows some roughness to the edges of the pages and the spine has been taped, but these detractions do little to diminish the overall quality and significance of this piece. Guide Value or Estimate: $750 - $1,000.
