Mid-1950's Terry Sawchuk Signed Photograph - Rare Boston Bruins Pose! After being shipped to Boston from the Detroit Red Wings in 1955, it was quite apparent that legendary goaltender Terry Sawchuk's career was in jeopardy. Frequently playing through excruciating injuries and illness, the Winnipeg native became extremely moody and depressed. On the verge of a nervous breakdown, Sawchuk announced his retirement in early 1957 and was labeled a "quitter" by team executives and the media. Eventually, Detroit reacquired Sawchuk by trading young forward Johnny Bucyk to the Bruins. The iconic sports figure ended up playing many more years of professional hockey and he was enshrined into the Hockey Hall of Fame 1971, one year after his untimely death. Offered here is an extremely rare signed photograph, featuring Sawchuk in his Bruins uniform. Signed in 6/10 blue felt-tip ink, it measures at 4x6", with a small tear from the bottom lefthand corner, in addition to a horizontal fold through the upper portion of the image. Scrapbook remnants are exhibited on the verso. Unquestionably, this is one of the rarest and significant pieces we've seen from the legendary goalie. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA. The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
