1945-46 Gordie (Gordon) Howe Team Signed Omaha Knights Photograph and First Year Red Wings Program, Ticket Stub. Even legends have to start out somewhere, and for Mr. Hockey it was no different. One of only a handful of young players, at the time, able to use the straight sticks of his era to shoot with either hand, Gordie Howe received his first taste of professional hockey when he failed to make the New York Rangers squad as a 15 year old. One year later, he was noticed by Red Wings scout Fred Pinkney and was signed to their junior team, the Galt Red Wings. After receiving limited playing time with the team, he was promoted to the Omaha Knights, where he scored a head turning 48 points in 51 games.

Offered here is an extremely significant 1945-46 Knights team-signed photograph, which features Howe as a 17 year old. Signed by each player in bold black ink (light smudging throughout), the 8x10" image is affixed to a scrap book sheet and presents the following keys: Gordon Howe, Tommy Ivan, Jimmie Skinner and others.

Also included in the lot is an original game program from Howe's first season with the Detroit Red Wings, when he was actually No. 17, instead of his famed No. 9. Exhibiting overall EX quality, the January 29, 1947 Wings vs. Bruins program presents newspaper clippings from the game and a ticket stub affixed to the center pages. Superb collection from arguably the best player ever to take the rink. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
