Owned only by the sport's top aces

1999 Maurice "Rocket" Richard "NHL Leading Goal Scorer" Trophy. Cy Young. Vince Lombardi. John Heisman. There's a special brand of immortality that comes with a namesake trophy, one's very identity becoming synonymous with excellence at the highest level of a sport. For a half century, only a single name served that role for offensive greatness in the National Hockey League, that of early star turned iconic coach Art Ross. First awarded in 1947 to Montreal Canadiens star Elmer Lach, the Art Ross Trophy annually honors the NHL's leading point scorer, a tally that considers both goals and assists in the equation.

But for the 1998-99 season, the Montreal Canadiens sought to recognize another highly esteemed family member, innovating a new NHL tradition by the name of the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy, to be awarded annually to the leading goal scorer of the National Hockey League. Remarkably, it's an award Richard himself would have claimed only once, during the 1944-45 season in which he became the first player in league history to net fifty. The Rocket would likewise found the 500 Goal Club, in 1957, further solidifying his status as the sport's premier goal scorer.

Donated by former Canadiens president Ronald Corey, the league's newest trophy was designed by a Montreal team that included Sylvie Beauchesne and Jean-Raymond Goyer, whose names appear on one of the plaques on the uppermost teier of the octagonal base. Other plaques include two vignettes of the "old" Forum where the Rocket rose to prominence, his celebrated "Never give up" slogan handwritten in both English and French. A fine figural sculpture of Richard in his prime stands atop the pedestal, framed between twin triangular flanks that beautifully catch the light. The trophy stands thirteen inches (13") in height.

A frail Richard attended the first official presentation of the master trophy in 1999, to Anaheim Ducks superstar Teemu Selänne, in an emotional NHL Awards Dinner appearance at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The offered example is effectively identical to the personal models issued to the players themselves, this representation retained by maker "Au Cour de Bronze," and displayed at the company's corporate offices until it was sold upon the dissolution of the business. It presents in fine condition and will be delivered in its own custom-crafted wooded shipping crate.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
