1928 Gold Knife Presented to Jack Adams after Lester Patrick Played in the Stanley Cup Finals. "The Memorable Evening" is quite the understatement for what actually took place on April 7, 1928. After an eye injury to starting goaltender Lorne Chabot, the coach and general manager of the New York Rangers actually inserted himself in a game during the Stanley Cup Finals. The heroic 44-year-old only allowed one goal in propelling his team to an overtime victory. The Rangers would go on to win the Stanley Cup, leaving fans only to wonder what would have happen if he wouldn't laced up the skates that night. Offered here is a rare memento, in the form of a gold pocket knife that was presented to Jack Adams, who was coach and general manager of the Detroit Cougars. This piece features "Jack Adams, The Memorable Evening-April 7, 1928, New York Rangers 2-Montreal Maroons 1, John S. Hammond," on one side. Truly a one-of-a-kind piece from one of the most intriguing instances in NHL history.
