1977-78 Gordie Howe New England Whaler Warm Up Suit. Given that his 26-year NHL career included numerous awards and accomplishments, it seemed that the book had closed on a stellar hockey career. Not one fan would have felt shorted, as Howe's prowess was enough that he essentially already racked up the statistics for two Hall of Fame careers. The superior athlete gave up retirement to return to competitive hockey with the WHA's Houston Aeros, an impressive for a man in his mid-40s. From the personal collection of long-time Whalers equipment man Skip Cunningham we present this quirky hockey memento -- Howe's personal New England warm-up suit from the 1977-78 season. That particular campaign marks not only the season that Howe turned 50, but also saw him score his 1,000th career goal. The green Sand-Knit jacket and pants worn by Mr. Hockey show wear in the form of areas of pilling throughout as well as some small holes on the jacket back. The jacket's left chest has the signature white-on-gold twill whale logo as well as Gordie's full name and number in iron-on felt lettering below. The upper right portion of the "G" in "GORDIE" has been torn away. With Howe's game used material commanding a premium due to his dignified status in the sport, the offering here makes for a great Hall of Famer-worn memento for those perhaps not able to afford a top-notch piece worn by Howe. The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
