Description
1953 Parkhurst Jean Beliveau #27 PSA Mint 9 - Pop One of One! THE most condition sensitive rookie card of any 1950's hockey Hall of Famer is the 1953 Parkhurst card featuring the debut of HoFer Jean Beliveau. Loyal to Montreal fans until the end - a span of 21 season - no jersey with a team logo other than the Montreal Canadiens ever graced his chest. The HoF legend used his stellar play to help his team to an amazing ten Stanley Cup Championships. For his efforts, he was also honored with 13 All-Star game appearances. Beliveau is a beloved figure who after retiring, set up the Jean Beliveau Foundation in 1971. He was offered the position of Governor General of Canada in 1994. The winner of multiple awards and honors, Beliveau holds several honorary doctorates and was given the Loyola Medal in 1995, became a Knight of the National Order of Quebec in 1988 eventually becoming Grand Officer. He was made a Companion of the Order of Canada - the highest civilian award in Canada in 1998. He is on Canada's Walk of Fame and even appears on a Canadian postage stamp.Graded PSA Mint 9, this is the first and currently only example to earn the "Mint 9" assessment from PSA! There is no other rated higher. The '53 Parkhurst series is famous for the extensive amount of searching it takes to find precisely centered cards. The centering on this head turner is perfect and if it is off - it is by a hairline. Three corners show hints of wear the tips but only under magnification. The fourth looks like a real "Gem." The reverse is about as nice as you'll ever find on a '53 Parkie, the front is pack-fresh, colors and registration combine for a portrait that transcends two dimensions. A phenomenal rookie card of a true titan of his sport and to his country.
