1979 Topps Wayne Gretzky Rookie #18 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher!

UPDATE: Wayne Gretzky has autographed the back of the PSA holder in blue sharpie, and PSA/DNA will supply a full LOA for that autograph.

Widely known as "The Great One," Wayne Gretzky is universally regarded as the greatest hockey player of all time, except by Gretzky himself. He earned this title through staggering achievement, not hype. His journey to hockey immortality began in a backyard rink in Brampton, Ontario, built by his father, where his talent quickly outgrew his age group. By the age of 10, Gretzky was playing against older, bigger competition and still dominated, famously scoring 378 goals in a single Pee-Wee season. That early brilliance foreshadowed a professional career that began with the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA, who knew what they had but in 1979, the only sport that the fans in Indiana would have watched on ice would have been Hoosiers basketball. With a lack of interest in Naptown, Gretzky was traded/sold to the Edmonton Oilers and the rest they say is history. He soon led the team to four Stanley Cup championships, ending the New York Islanders' reign in the process. Over his NHL career, Gretzky captured the Hart Trophy a record nine times and led the league in scoring with eight Art Ross Trophies, setting a standard no one has matched since.

Offered here is a 1979 Topps hockey card #18 featuring Wayne Gretzky in his rookie campaign with the Oilers. The winning bidder will own a piece of hockey and trading card history as this is one of, if not, the most coveted hockey card that the hobby has ever seen. Graded PSA Mint 9. Per the PSA Pop Report, only ONE example has reached Gem Mint status. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
