Description

1966 Topps Bobby Orr #35 PSA NM-MT 8. The 1966 Topps Bobby Orr rookie card is among the most coveted hockey cards in the entire history of the hockey card galaxy. Tied to a Boston Bruin organization that caught wind of his prodigious skill at the tender age of fourteen, the exceptional talent that was Bobby Orr was ready for the big stage of the NHL by the time he was a 6' 200-pound eighteen year old. Orr had all the skills from a very early age -- superb speed, phenomenal stickhandling, and out-of-this-world defensive prowess. Few who had seen him play would say that the Bruins were out of line when they made the teen the highest-paid player in NHL history for his rookie campaign. To say that he was good in his debut professional campaign would be a glaring understatement -- he collected a number of accolades including the Calder Trophy as the league's best rookie, a spot on the Second All-Star Team, and finished second in the league in scoring by defenseman. It was a sign of spectacular things to come. Orr revitalized Beantown's zest for hockey much in the same way that Eddie Shore had sparked it generations before. Orr possessed the skill and finesse to post the offensive tallies that he did -- but the heady future Hall of Famer always dominated when he was on the ice and there was very little anyone could do about it.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. One of forty-five at the NM-MT level with a pair graded higher. Starting with the surfaces we find an almost complete lack of any blemish or mishap. Obverse corners show mere traces of wear, the reverse surface at corners show even less wear. The layer of gloss is shiny and consistent suggests handling was kept to a bare minimum. Centering is a small percentage away from perfect. A very strong example that would fit in very nicely with the other high grade '66 Topps Hockey cards or Bobby Orr cards in your collection.
