This set captures the depth and talent of a NHL league that was still considered a niche sport. The 1967 expansion, which doubled the amount of teams and left the Original 6 era in the rear-view mirror, certainly opened the sport to different markets, allowing the league to grow but had yet to explode into the sporting public's consciousness. The 1969-70 season saw the Toronto Maple Leafs only two years removed from their last Stanley Cup and fans surely didn't see a championship drought on the horizon.
