    Description

1955 Quaker Oats/Parkhurst "Oldtime Greats" PSA Graded Group (6). A predecessor of the Cereal and baseball sets that came some five years later, this issue borrowed its format from the Parkhurst cards issued the same year, but instead came circulated inside boxes of Quaker Oats products. The cards were the main focus of a promotion giving youngsters the chance to redeem a complete set of cards for impressive prizes like a pair of C.C.M. Skates or a new C.C.M. Bicycle. The promotion appears on its surface to have been a smashing success, as ads extending the prize offer announced "100 MORE BICYCLES to be given away!" But one must wonder if this was simply a rather cynical marketing ploy considering the trio of extremely limited short print subjects which have proven impossible to find. This issue may appear to be the common '55 Parkhurst variety, but rest assured each is clearly a Quaker Oats product. The distinctive green backs will confirm. The set featured both contemporary and old-time players, this gallery features some of the "Oldtime Greats." Includes: #'s 24 Joe Primeau (PSA NM 7), 32 Harold Cotton (PSA VG-EX 4), 55 Newsy Lalonde (PSA VG-EX 4), 56 Georges Vezina (PSA VG-EX 4), 57 Howie Morenz (PSA VG 3) and 64 Ken Reardon (PSA VG-EX 4).
