1971 Barratt & Co, Ltd Famous Sportsman Jack Nicklaus #6 PSA Mint 9. "Some things cannot happen because they are both too improbable and too perfect," stated writer Tom Boswell. "The U.S. hockey team cannot beat the Russians in the 1980 Olympics. Jack Nicklaus cannot shoot a 65 to win The Masters at age 46. Nothing else comes to mind." When Nicklaus won that 1986 Masters, it was the 18th and last major he would ever win. He currently has the most majors in history, ahead of second place Tiger Woods with 15. Nicklaus started golf at age 10, and in his first time on a real course he shot a 51 for nine holes. He was soon entering amateur events, and he later won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1959 and '61, and finished second behind Arnold Palmer in the 1960 U.S. Open. He turned pro in 1961. He was a prodigious driver for his time, and his putting was not as accomplished, and very conservative. Nicklaus concentrated on the majors, he and often sat out other tournaments. Still, he ranks third in all-time PGA tournament wins with 73, behind only Sam Snead (82) and Woods (82). Nicklaus is tied with Woods for the most modern Grand Slams with three. After retiring from regular tournament events, he played on the Senior Tour. He is now involved as a designer of courses.

Until relatively recently, golf cards were not regularly issued. While not his official Nicklaus rookie card, the Barratt release is the earliest card for Nicklaus, was issued in Britain, and is considered by the majority of collectors to be his real rookie card. The issue was part of the Goldflake Famous Sportsman release. The set comprises 50 cards. Graded PSA Mint 9. None have graded higher.
