Description

The "Sam Snead Cup" Awarded to Sam Snead for Career Achievement at The Greater Greensboro Open. It has gone through a number of name changes over the past two decades--currently settling on the Wyndham Championship--but for the first half century of its existence this annual North Carolina tournament was known as the Greater Greensboro Open, with the great Sam Snead serving as its most decorated champion. The legendary linksman holds a pair of records related to the tournament, most notably his eight victories which stands as the most victories for any golfer in a single PGA Tour event. His final victory in 1965 at age fifty-three still stands as the record for the oldest player to claim a PGA Tour win.

So it stands to reason that the victor's prize for this tournament would be named in Snead's honor, and this attractive loving cup is a ceremonial model issued to the man himself for his three decades of brilliance in the Tarheel State. The body of the trophy is artfully engraved, "Sam Snead Cup," with the silver band at the base engraved with the details: "Sam Snead, Greensboro's Greatest Champion, Eight-time Winner of the Greater Greensboro Open, 1938, 1946, 1949, 1950, 1955, 1956, 1960, 1965." The trophy measures seventeen inches in height and requires no condition caveats, surviving without so much as a hint of tarnishing. No maker's marks, but constructon appears to be sterling silver. Letter of provenance from Jack Snead.
