Description

Circa 1930 Bobby Jones Personal Desk Set. Our attribution of vintage is admittedly an educated guess, but the green marble base and particularly the art deco styling of the engraved "Robert Tyre Jones Jr." nameplate strongly suggests creation in the era of the legendary linksman's celebrated Grand Slam season. The aesthetics are still commanding, but we must note the absence of both the figural golfer's club and the pens that once resided into the still-present holders that flank the marvelous Jones miniature. The set derives from the personal collection of Jones' secretary, whose estate provides this auction with several important pieces relating to this Golden Age legend. Set measures 8x14x8" at its largest dimensions. Letter of provenance from Jean Marshall family.
