    Description

1957 Canada Cup Team Member Medallion from The Sam Snead Collection. The Canada Cup Matches, now known as the World Cup Matches, began in Montreal, Canada in 1953. Sam Snead would represent the United States several times in this competition, winning on four different occasions with three different partners. This large medallion, some 3" in diameter, depicts a pair of golfers shaking hands in front of an image of the globe. The rear of the medal reads as follows: "International Golf Trophy Team Member Sam Snead United States 1957 Presented By John Jay Hopkins." A beautiful piece from the fifth ever World Cup played. Snead and his partner Jimmy Demaret would come in second this year, bested by the hosting nation of Japan in its sole twentieth century Canada Cup victory.
