    Description

1951 Kansas City Golf Association "Gof-fer" Awards Won by Lloyd Mangrum & Frank Stranahan. Amateur winner Stranahan was known as the "Toledo Strongman," ranked number one in his weight class in powerlifting between 1945 and 1954, but he played a mean round of golf as well, winning six PGA Tour events and finishing second in both the Masters and British Open in 1947. Professional winner Mangrum is best remembered as the victor in the 1946 US Open. These charming figural trophies derive from the display case of the Kansas City course, each standing seventeen inches in height and bearing an engraved plaque on the wooden base that reads, "Gof-Fer Award, Kansas City Golf Association, Awarded to [Frank Stranahan/Lloyd Mangrum], [Amateur/Professional] 1951." Fine condition with only a few indications of light handling wear. Each shows handling wear, Mangrum's having lost much of its luster, but joined by a letter of provenance from his grandson and a photo of Mangrum with the trophy, said to be his favorite. Letter of provenance from grandson of Lloyd Mangrum.
