Description

1950 Los Angeles Open Championship Gold Pendant Won by Sam Snead. Yet again the two titans of the sport, Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, found themselves locked in a head-to-head battle to determine a tournament champion, as the legendary linksmen shared the same low score after four rounds, requiring an eighteen-hole tiebreaker. This time is was Snead who won the fight, claiming his second Los Angeles Open and his fiftieth PGA Tour win. It would prove to be the first of eleven Tour victories in 1950, Snead's most productive year.

The two-piece gold pin features a figural ribbon at top engraved "24th L.A. Open" and dangling a figural golf ball holding an inset real diamond and engraved text that reads, "Golf's Golden Tournament, L.A. Jr. C. of C." Reverse of golf ball figural is engraved, "Championship, Won By," but Snead failed to have his name added. Verso of figural ribbon is stamped "14K." The pin remains housed in its original leather case embossed in green, "Hugh N. Cameron, Jeweler, Los Angeles, Calif." Fine condition. Letter of provenance from Jack Snead.
