Description

1949 "The Sport Magazine" Golfer of the Year Trophy Won by Sam Snead. Identical in design to the the trophy presented in the same banquet ceremony to legendary fighter Sugar Ray Robinson, as listed in the Heritage September 2004 Signature Auction, is this impressive amalgamation of design and historical import from the trophy case of the great Sam Snead. The prize is a recognition of a season widely considered to be the finest of Snead's illustrious career, one punctuated by victories at the Masters and the PGA Championship, the first year a single golfer claimed both Majors.

The trophy stands 17.5" tall and features a solid bronze figure atop a wood base affixed with a plaque that reads, "To Sam Snead, Top Performer of 1949 in Golf, January 19, 1950." The top band that rings the wooden base, reading, "The Sport Magazine Award," has become partially loose, but this is not evident on display and would be an easy fix if desired. Minimal wear to that wooden base represents the rest of condition caveats, leaving the piece to present marvelously. Letter of provenance from Jack Snead.
