Description
1921 US Open Championship Pocket Watch Presented to Jim Barnes. Beautiful gold pocket watch presented to Jim Barnes to commemorate his win at the 1921 US Open Golf Championship. The watch is a Swiss made Longines and measures approximately 1.75" in diameter. The back of the watch case has a very ornate fancy engraving "JMB" and inside is the following wonderful inscription: "U.S. Open Golf Championship Columbia C.C. Washington, D.C. July 21-22, 1921. Presented By Carters Tested Seeds Inc. For Lowest 18 Hole Score Won By J. M. Barnes."Carters Tested Seeds was a London-based company established in 1804 and as Barnes was born in England, this was a special gift to their native son. The "lowest 18 hole score" probably refers to the 69 Barnes fired in the first round of the 1921 US Open en route to a runaway nine stroke victory. This watch must have been a favorite of Mr. Barnes as it shows some wear and has minor nicks to the dial. Stamped and tested at fourteen karat gold. Letter of provenance from Barnes family.
