    1919 Walter Hagen Metropolitan Open Gold Medal. Walter Hagen won this fourteen-karat Gold Medal at the North Shore Country Club in 1919. It was Walter's 2nd of three consecutive wins in the Met Open, a tournament which Hagen stated in his autobiography ranked just below the U.S. Open in importance at that time. Hagen's winning total was 294, three strokes better than Emmet French. According to the July 12th 1919 New York Times article, "Hagen's 'spoils' include $250 and a gold medal emblematic of the championship." Engraved on the back is "Open Championship - Won By - July 11th 1919." The front reads "Metropolitan Golf Association Twelfth Open Championship 1919." The medal is equipped with a loop for a chain. Measures 1.25." The condition is NRMT.
