Description

1961 Doug Sanders Colonial National Open Winner's Gold Medal. Victor's medal was earned by the "Peacock of the Fairways" at Fort Worth in Sanders' home state of Texas, just weeks before his second place finish at the U.S. Open, where he was topped by a single stroke. But at the Colonial it was Sanders that defeated all comers, claiming the fifth of his career twenty PGA tour wins. Presented for the accomplishment was this gorgeous memento, featuring the logo of the PGA at obverse and engraved with the details of the win: "Colonial National Inv., 1961 Scores 69-75-67-70-281." Verso is stamped "14K" and engraved, "Winner, Colonial Nat'l Inv., Doug Sanders." Measures one and a half inches in diameter. Fine condition. Family letter of provenance.
