Description
1970's Jack Nicklaus Tournament Used Golf Bag. Golf's equivalent of Mickey Mantle, the flaxen-haired Golden Bear was the American dream of a sports superstar, with movie star looks and boy next door charm to match his unparalleled athletic abilities. The offered green and white leather MacGregor bag accompanied the legendary linksman at the crest of his storied career, a period that saw him capture six of his record eighteen Major Championship victories. It comes to us from from a gentleman with close ties to the sport who became the beneficiary of this special gift--Nicklaus often gave his bags away, and Heritage has sold several in the past.Beyond the unique design features of the green and white leather relic--notably the format of "Jack Nicklaus" text sewn to the white stripe on the side and the white block lettering on the bottom--the bag can be linked definitively to the golf superstar by the presence of two umbrella holders (although one has torn away, leaving just the leather stubs). This was a special design feature unique to Jack's sacks. Tons of use is evident, but aside from the lost umbrella loop, the bag exhibits nothing properly characterized as damage. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
