1960's Payne Stewart Used & Signed Putter. A letter of provenance from the consignor states, "Putter was acquired from Payne Stewart by a PGA professional during his last year of school at Southern Methodist University. This PGA professional was a head professional at a Ft. Worth, TX private country club. A showcase was constructed for the putter and it was displayed inside this country club until I personally acquired it in 1985." A fascinating relic from the earliest days of Stewart's evolution into a superstar, the presented relic is the very putter with which he learned the game as a young boy. The wood-shafted club exhibits tremendous use and is signed on the back of the club head in 9/10 black marker. Once among the most recognizable players in professional golf because of his trademark knickers and tam-O'-shanter hat, Stewart tragically lost his life in a 1999 airplane crash, suddenly ending the supply of his collectibles to a market anxious for them, and increasing the value of those already available. As such pieces are secreted away into private collections, offerings such as this will only become more rare. Bid accordingly. Letter of provenance from consignor. Auction LOA from JSA (autograph).
