    Description

Bobby Jones Signed Letter. One of the most idolized sports heroes of the 1920's, Bobby Jones did much to popularize the game of golf in the United States. He won the U.S. Open four times (in 1923, 1926, 1929, and 1930), and he also won the U.S. Amateur five times (in 1924, 1925, 1927, 1928, and 1930). His 1930 Grand Slam, where he won the four Open and Amateur tournaments in both America and England, has never been duplicated. Yet, his helping to popularize golf by the example of his personal performance was not the only way that Jones would attempt to generate interest in the game. He would act as the appointed Director of the Spalding-founded American Golf Institute in the 1940's, making public appearances and sending out letters to various businesses and potential venues that could help to promote the sport. This is one such letter, dated November 25th, 1941 to a , Rufus Brown in regards to a problem he has had with his Social Security. The EX/NMT conditioned letter is fully typed but fountain pen signed "Robert T. Jones, Jr.," in clear black ink ("10"). A pair of minute staple holes in upper left do nothing to detract from this striking piece. JSA Auction LOA.
