The Greatest Names in Golf Honor "The Haig."

1967 Walter Hagen Testimonial Letter Collection. This fantastic leather covered spiral bound album contains thirty-eight signed letters written to Walter Hagen (1892-1969) in celebration of the grand Testimonial Dinner held in Hagen's honor at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club in Traverse City, Michigan on August 14, 1967. Over 250 friends and celebrities from all over the world attended this lively gala to honor Sir Walter as "Golfer of the Century." Some of those would could not attend sent personal letters to "The Haig." The committee who organized the event presented Hagen with this album containing those letters. Also included in addition to these letters is the letter sent to Walter and his wife, inviting them to the affair, as well as an original engraved invitation and reply card.

The letters in the album were written by a veritable who's-who of professional golfers, politicians, writers, and entertainers. Many of the thirty-eight celebrities (especially the golfers) wrote personal memories of incidents involving "The Haig" and themselves. Many of the letters are worth thousands of dollars on their own, but as a collection, this album serves as an incomparable historical testimonial of Walter Hagen's major contributions to the development and growth of professional golf as seen through the eyes of his adoring contemporaries. A magnificent, outstanding, and important lot from the Estate of Walter Hagen, winner of eleven Major Championships, and one of the true giants of the game of golf.

Included in the collection is a certificate of authenticity from Shelby J. Plyler who received the testimonial album upon the death of Walter Hagen's longtime companion Doris Brandes. Excerpts from the various texts are available online at
