    Description

1941-42 Bobby Jones Signed Letters Lot of 10. The most important figure of golf's Golden Age provides ten examples of his signature in the most desirable of formats, penned well before he was stricken with the illness that would ultimately end his life. Six of the typed letters are rendered upon "The American Golf Institute" letterhead, which lists Jones as "Director," and fellow links legend Horton Smith as an "Associate Director." The balance of the typed letters appear on "Jones, Powers, Williams & Dorsey" law office letterhead. All of the letters are a single page, and it must be noted that one of the ten is only the second page of a two-page letter. The correspondence, all addressed to "Mr. Rufus Brown" of "The Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Rutland (VT)," remains almost entirely business in nature, though it is clear that a friendship exists here as well, particularly apparent in one letter in which Jones seeks to allay the recipient's concerns regarding his prospects of being drafted into WWII service. Most importantly, each closing signature is rendered in 9/10 or better black fountain pen ink, and the letters remain free of any condition issues besides the original mailing folds. A marvelous lot for the autograph investor and dealer alike. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
