1929 Bobby Jones Handwritten Signed Letter, PSA/DNA MINT 9. With the customary grace and dignity that inspired writer Herbert Warren Wind to opine, "In the opinion of many people, of all the great athletes, Jones came the closest to being what we call a great man," the golf legend responds to the request of a competitor's mother for a signed photograph. He first apologizes for the delay and then goes on to praise the recipient's son, writing, "During my short acquaintance with Phil I gained a most sincere respect and regard for him, and in so doing, I was not the least bit different from the other Americans who met and played with him. If he comes back to America to make his home, as I understand he intends, everyone will welcome him with delight. We should likewise be happy to acquire England's greatest golfer." He concludes with a "Most sincerely, Robt. T. Jones, Jr." in the same 9+/10 black fountain pen ink that characterizes the entirety of the letter. It is penned on both sides of a 5.5x7.5" unlined page, and is accompanied by the original mailing envelope written but unsigned by Jones. Please note that the photograph referenced in the letter is presented in the lot immediately following this one. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication..Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA MINT 9.
