    Description

1916 Harry Vardon Handwritten Signed Letters Lot of 3. Extraordinary little archive of correspondence documents the unlikely friendship between a young female golfer from the Buffalo, New York and legendary British links icon Harry Vardon. The six-time winner of The Open Championship dedicates a great deal of time and ink to his lessons for this young fan, providing magnificent content for the modern collector. His first letter is a lengthy dissertation on the proper swing, which directly references "the Vardon grip," providing not only a second autograph of sorts, but also a mention of his greatest contribution to the game. His hand addressed (but unsigned) original envelope is here as well. The second and third letters appear on his gorgeous personal letterhead picturing his Open Championship medals. These letters continue on the golfing theme, congratulating and encouraging the young lady in her athletic pursuits. All three letters are penned in bold black fountain pen ink and signed, "Yrs. Sincerely, Harry Vardon." Each exhibits original mailing folds with some occasional minor separation at the fold lines but no other condition issues of note. Further provenance is supplied by the young Miss Williams' personal scrapbook filled with clipped newspaper and magazine images of her favorite golfers. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
